Bug Fixes and Learning


Well it's been a week of learning that's for sure.

First, I want to update on Glenn. He seems to be back to his old self. Peeing like a champion and running around with the zoomies like a good kitty should. He has been extremely loving too. Sleeping with us every night and cuddling throughout the day. So happy he is home and safe now. He will continue to be my motivation to finish this game.

Now about the game! I was able to get an Android version released!! Right now it is in closed testing so I am working on getting 20 people signed up so that we launch into production. It is selling on Android Play Store for $5, BUT its a mobile game that you can spend a long time playing, with no ads, no microtransactions, just pure gameplay!!

With that, found an issue with Cloud generation and level generation. Turns out the method I wrote wasn't properly taking into account the max number of available levels when selecting the next one to generate, this caused an endless void to be produced forcing an end to the run. This has now been fixed in the latest update.

I also ran into an error that clouds were not generating as expected. Turns out they WERE generating, I have them generating off screen and was assuming they weren't generating. But because there was an error with the script attached to them, nothing from their scene was actually running. Changed that line of code, and viola! Clouds are now generating.

Don't get me wrong, I am aware that there is another issue with Cloud generation, something about how I am determining their start position is causing them to pop in and out of existence randomly on screen. This will be fixed in the next update.

Finally, I added 10 more levels to the generation pool, you will need to get past a score of 10 for them to begin showing up. Good luck.

Also coming in the next update will be item pick-up. I plan for these to put your score up by 5, but they will be sparsely generated, talk about a quick way to get your score up if you get good RNG.

After the pick-ups, its mainly going to be artwork updates, where the background will update every x number of levels, the tile-set will be able to be selected by you after unlocking more sets using the collectibles you find (see previous note about item pick-up). Additionally, new character sprites are also on the roadmap. Again, these will be unlocked with collectibles.

As a final note, I do want to say, I am working on another game for mobile. No exciting things to share about here except it will be called "Fire Away"
