Game Launch - Story Time!
I started this game about a year ago and shelfed it. It was originally an idea I had for something my daughter could play. We both sort of lost interest in it, but I still wanted to develop a game.
Fast forward to this week. I decided to pick it up again. Working through the challenge I had when I put it down last year, and moving forward at a decent rate. I was getting excited for finishing the game. Then Monday night, my life went into an emotional spiral.
My cat Glenn, 3 year old kitty, had a complete blockage of his urinary tract. This resulted in a vet visit where we were told it would be roughly $2,000 for the initial procedure, then an additional $2,000 for a few overnight at the emergency vets. Loans had to be taken out to cover these costs as the vets do not offer any sort of payment plan. Over the course of Monday evening all through out Tuesday I have been getting calls from vet and the loan issuer over additional costs that have been coming up. I just want Glenny to be better, not just for me, but for my daughter.
Wednesday morning we received the happy call that he is doing so much better and we can go in to pick him up and bring him home. We were excited, extremely excited. We drove right away to go pick him up. We were placed in a tiny examination room where we were given some info on how to avoid this in the future (special diet, plenty of water, etc.) and that they would be right back with him and we can go home.
After an excruciating 15 minute wait, the vet comes in with the news that he is not doing as well as she originally stated and will now have to stay longer. My heart instantly sank. I was so excited to bring him home, and now we have to wait longer. In addition to this, there is an additional bill totaling between $600 and $2,000 on top of what was initially quoted.
I am heart broken, defeated, and extremely worried about Glenn. I can only imagine what my 6 year old daughter is going through in her head.
This vet bill is more than I would have ever expected, and so I thought launching the game in early access with regular updates would be a least a little bit of help to pay for these costs. In addition to that, it is also helping keep me distracted and out of my head about the situation.
Thank you for letting be vent to you and let me spill out the situation. I look forward to seeing the final version of this game on release.
The main character is Goose, the nick name we have given our daughter. We have her running through obstacles collecting diamonds (in progress). It is a never ending game and I plan for multiple features in the future, go to the page to learn more about it!
